Hawker Sea Hawk Spent shell chute desk tidy

This is the 20mm cannon shell chute from a Hawker Sea Hawk.

It has been mounted to allow it to be used as a desk tidy.

The Sea Hawk was a jet fighter used by the Fleet Air Arm and also flown by the German air force post war.

They were used by the RAF at the Suez crisis.

The original green paint.

It is marked with an AW ( Armstrong Whitworth) inspectors stamp and part number C176197.

Armstrong Whitworth made Sea Hawks for Hawker.

De Havilland Propeller Cog Bowl

A steel cog that was made by De Havilland Propellers at Lostock in UK.
This is the steel cog that was attached to the bottom of the propeller to adjust the pitch of the blade. De Havilland licensed the Hamilton Standard propeller pitch system This involved a hydraulic system that turned a central cog and each blade had a 1/4 turn cog that would be rotated to the same extent.

We don't know the aircraft but given the LH and RH it was a twin engined small aircraft. It dates form some time between 1945 and 1960. We have had one of these cogs previously from a B-24 and it was twice the diameter of these ones.

There is a P number on each cog as well as a DHL ( de Havilland Lostock) inspectors number scribed onto the metal.

There are two bowls turned from solid Wenge that allows the cogs to sit on the top edge and be held by the lip of the bowl. We have added a small piece of brown leather into the inside base of the bowl.

1 The bowl with the small opening has an additional tooth cog that sits inside the outer cog. SOLD

2 The bowl with the larger opening has the outer cog only.

12cm diameter and 5 cm high

WW2 RAF Hawker Tempest Trim Tab Desk Tidy

WW2 RAF aircraft Hawker Tempest II elevator trim tab section mounted on a solid Ebony base with leather insert.

Derived from the Hawker Typhoon the Hawker Tempest was developed in two parallel tracts with different engines. This part is from a Hawker Tempest II.

Made by Hawker at their Langley factory in 1945 and saw service with the RAF before being sold to the Indian Air Force in 1947. They saw service with the IAF before being retired and stored at Poona until the mid 70's.. A group of six were purchased and returned to the UK for restoration in 79..

They have been distributed far since then but two are now close to flight. This was removed form one of the aircraft along with skin panels from the fuselage and wings.

The elevator has been sectioned into three parts - two are shown here remounted.

We have made new walnut end pieces and repainted the panels in their 1945 RAF paint scheme upper and lower surfaces. ( Ocean Grey and Dark Green upper and Medium Sea Grey lower.) Each piece was then coated with a matt acrylic top coat to protect the coloured paint.

These two parts both have hawker part numbers on the lower surface still visible.

We have added a 10mm aluminum bar as a pivot and set that into two solid aluminium blocks - one at each end.

We have taken a 27 cm x 12.5 cm x 2 cm block of solid Macassar Ebony and routed a recesss into the middle that is large enough and deep enough to take either pencils, coins etc. The recess is 17 cm x 6.7 cm x 1 cm deep.

When closed the total height is 4.5 cm. When open it is 11 cm

The trim tab when closed fully covers the recess.

The base of the recess has been lined with leather.
One is lined with blue leather and one with beige.

The trim tab swings up and down freely. There is a small protective dot at one side of the lower surface to stop it damaging the paint against the wood.

When closed the total height is 4.5 cm. When open it is 11 cm

They are sold separately. There is one of each available.

A unique and tactile item for the aircraft enthusiasts desk.

Bowl made from an Airspeed Horsa relic mounted in Zebrano wood.

Original sections of reinforcing plates from a WW2 Horsa glider.

The Airspeed AS 51/AS 58 Horsa was a large troop carrying glider that was used extensively by the British in their invasion and assaults on Europe. They saw service in Sicily, Normandy and Arnhem

They were made of wooden frames with plywood skins. The wooden structure had several metal plates that were necessary to reinforce the joints and heavy strain points.

This plate came form the excavation of a glider remains and were to be used in a failed restoration project.

We have electrolytically de rusted the steel to remove surface rust.

This steel circular plate is similar to the large washers visible in the roof of the Horsa in the last image.

We have turned a 6 inch x 2 inch piece of Zebrano wood to make a custom bowl to hold teh relic.

It can be used as a Vide poche/pocket tidy or for storing small items.

The internal hols is 6 cm x 2.5 cm deep.

The size of the bowl is just under 6 inches x 2 inches.

The colours of the rusted steel match the Zebrano.

Browning M2 50 cal

In 2009 we were invited to a dig at a local RAF WW2 disposal site.

We found many items from T-6, P-51, Lancaster, B-25, P-BY, Oxford; Magister etc. a well as a few other pieces.

This is the retracting slide from a Browning M2 "Fifty Cal" that we pulled out of the hole in the ground. It had been underground for 70 years but it is from a wartime RAF aircraft.

We have derusted it, polished and blued it. We have mounted it on a beach wood board using two japanned screws. The lever still folds but the slider is static.

A very nice wartime relic from an allied aircraft. Due to its condition it is not considered a weapon.

The board measures 32 cm x 12.5cm.

Original metal casting from a B-24 fuel tank filler.

This relic was a metal detecting find on a Royal Air Force airfield in the UK where post war surplus B-24 were scrapped.

These aircraft were built in the USA and flown to Europe and were being massed for use in Tiger Force - the Allied force preparing to fight Japan.

After Japan surrendered the aircraft were surplus to needs and disposed of in the late 40's.

This is part of the fuel tank filler cap that can be seen in the parts diagram. It was attached to part 19.

We have hand turned a bowl form a solid blank of Sycamore and created a space for the metal ring to sit.

Bristol Britannia Aircraft Coat Hook Wall Hanging

An original aircraft fitting removed from a Bristol Britannia during a refit at Filton in Bristol.

This sprung coat hook was part of the cabin crews equipment at the entrances and in the galley etc.

It is made from two pieces of anodized aluminium and hinges opens to allow a garment to be hung.

It closes under the spring to prevent any snagging when passing.

It came to us with no spring -so we have had to replace the spring as well the hinge pin with a stainless steel bolt.

We have added a a soft rubber pin on the internal face to prevent the metals surfaces hitting (as per the original).

On the rear we have added a slot hanger so that it can be wall hung.

The hook is set into a slight recess in the wood and is bolted onto the wood to stop it rotating.

We have then mounted the hook onto a piece of solid oak that we have laser engraved with the aircraft name and profile in addition to the company logos of four airlines who flew the Britannia in service. BOAC; Caledonian; British Eagle and Monarch.

The Bristol Britannia was a post war design for a transatlantic airliner. Due to delays in introducing it into service it lost out to the newer jets that were introduced in the interim. Only 85 were made.

The Britannia was called the Whispering Giant due to its quietness.

N.B. the coat hook was replaced in the aircraft due to a small nick on the LHS edge as shown in the images.
